Why do footballers put their hands up before taking a corner?
Before a player takes a corner, they will often raise their arm in the air before crossing it in.
This is often a signal to the rest of the team, to let them know what kind of corner they are about to take and where they plan to place the ball.
So the left arm going up could mean one play, the right arm may indicate another, and both arms may indicate yet another.
These are usually plays which are pre-rehearsed in training and are done to outsmart the opposition team.
