Why Do Footballers Walk Out With Kids? 👨👦
updated on January 21st, 2023

Children walking out onto the pitch holding hands with footballers is a tradition which started roughly 30 years ago.
However the first time seeing it at a major tournament was in the Euro 2000, and was done to raise awareness and promote the rights of all children.
It was a campaign to remind all football enthusiasts that they have a part to play in building a fair world for children.
But since then, it has also been done for other reasons.
Such as advertising football as a safe sport, fit for children and families, a way of injecting the innocence back into the sport.
It’s also an amazing way to fulfill a child's dream, to walk out for your favourite club, holding hands with your role model!
And lastly, it serves as a nice reminder to the players right before they play, that these children look up to them and so it’s important to provide a positive example.
