Sir Alex says that the majority of footballers have working-class roots and for them, football is their best path towards a better life.
He argues that middle-class parents want to ensure their children go to university or acquire different skills which means football ultimately gets less attention.
And for those kids who already live a comfortable life, the same drive to succeed in football isn't there.
In the case of his own previous players, he used Beckham as an example, someone who lived in a small house in East London and whose father worked as a heating engineer.
And Wayne Rooney who grew up in a rough neighbourhood in Liverpool where he was constantly getting into trouble.
He believes those who grew up having less will always strive to become better footballers than those who have more.
